"Neil Bahr had moved to work for the Mackles after having a successful franchise for them in Ohio. He was so close to the Mackles that he was known as the 4th Mackle Brother. Bahr was in charge of the marketing and sales efforts. Bahr earmarked $600,000 for advertising for the Grand Opening of Marco Island set for January 31, 1965 including full page spreads and color supplements in 30 major newspapers, bus placards, nearly 700 television and radio spots. He was very successful - in the first month Deltona received more than 50,000 requests for information and twenty five thousand people showed up for opening day. Bahr oversaw sales offices in 47 foreign countries, mostly in norther U.S. but also in Europe, Latin America and the Far East. He created the Air Caravan Program "Fly & Buy," clients who signed a contract and wanted to see the property could fly down for a 2 night/3 day weekend at the Voyager for $99. Nearly 3/4 of the lots and more than 1/2 of the houses were sold this way. Neil Bahr's brilliant concept was a "Coordinated Growth Plan" that divided Marco into 5 areas. In the first, the payment plan was 3 years since that is how long it would take to finish developing the lots. Other areas such as Barfield Bay and Big Key could be financed for 8 1/2 years. Buyers had full faith in the Mackles and Deltona. Much of the rapid success of the selling of Marco Island is attributable to Neil Bahr."
