Marco Beach News, Volume 3, Number 1; p. 4 Marco Islander, Winter/Spring 1977; p. 6 Pilot of the Marco Island Airways inaugural "commerical" flight from Miami to Marco Island [2015-02-240C]. ANDERSON, Raymond L., Captain U. S. Navy (Ret.), 83 years old and with family members at his bedside, passed away peacefully Sunday evening, December 10, 2006 at his home in Maryville, Tennessee. He moved to Maryville in 2005 from Palm Beach Gardens, Florida where he was a member of the Palm Beach Gardens United Methodist Church. He lived on Marco Island, Florida from 1981 to 2003. Captain Anderson was a Naval Aviator and served as a carrier pilot in the South Pacific during World War II. He retired from the Navy Reserves in 1965. He was a corporate pilot and the Vice-President of Aviation for the Deltona Corporation and Marco Island Airways in Florida, retiring in 1985. He was an avid tournament tennis player and Habitat for Humanity volunteer until the age of 75. Captain Anderson was preceded in death by his mother Olga and sister Carmen Hannah. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Callie Ruth; son and daughter-in-law, Ramon L. and Cindy Anderson of Maryville; son and daughter-in-law, Robert M. and Deborah Anderson of Maryville; daughter and son-in-law, Robin and Jeff Clifford of Cortland, NY; grandchildren, Laurie Anderson of St. Louis, MO, Greg Anderson (Jennifer) of Brooklyn, NY, Krista Libby (Kevin) of Ocala, FL, Karey Barron (Rob) of Ocala, FL, Kevin Anderson of Madison, FL, Allison Clifford and Brian Clifford of Cortland, NY; three great grandchildren, Kinley Libby and Kailey and Abby Barron, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was a good husband, a good father, a good son and a good friend to many whom he knew on Marco Island and, more recently, in Maryville. We will miss his strength, his determination and, most of all, his humor and ability to laugh with us to the end of his life. Since moving to Maryville, Captain Anderson and his wife attended Fairview United Methodist Church and enjoyed living in beautiful East Tennessee. The family is grateful for the care and treatment provided by the medical staff of Thompson Oncology Group at Blount Memorial Hospital. A celebration of life service will be conducted by Dr. Jerry Russell at Fairview United Methodist Church in Maryville and interment on Marco Island, Florida. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to any local Habitat for Humanity organization. |
